IGU TRAVEL GRANT

The International Geographical Union (IGU) announces the availability of travel grants awarded on a competitive basis to help defray the costs of in-person participation in the 2026 IGU Regional Conference, due to take place from 17-21 August 2026 in Istanbul, Tϋrkiye. A maximum of up to US$750, will be awarded to successful candidates.

In selecting applicants to receive funding to support their travel, preference will be given to early career scholars, in particular those from low income countries. Grants may also be available for senior scholars, for example, session organizers or steering committee members from low income countries who are not able to find funding. Please note that full participation in the conference program, including the closing ceremony is required from recipients of the IGU Travel Grants.

Completed applications are due at no later than 31st March 2026. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their requests no later than 29 May 2026. Awards are to be paid in cash at designated times during the conference to reimburse successful applicants.
